Sun’s Out, Blunt’s Out - 2021’s Most Popular Summer Strains
We made it. We survived the hellish summer of 2020 locked away in quarantine, smoking like freight trains while dreaming about all of the fun summer activities that COVID prevented us from being part of. Your life probably consisted of very little passing of blunts, taking bong rip after bong rip, or really anything social outside of smoke out sessions with your friends via Zoom. That is all behind us now though (at least, for the most part). Hot girl/boy summer 2021 is upon us and we’re ready to make up for lost time! That’s why we decided to put together a list of 2021’s most popular summer strains for our readers.
Jack Herer
A strain first bred in the mid 90’s, Jack Herer has made a resounding comeback in the past few months. This newfound demand is likely due to JH’s sativa dominant profile that is described by most consumers as perfectly energizing. Nothing says “let’s party hard this weekend” like a powerful sativa and Jack Herer is just the strain for the job. A year ago, this strain would have likely been a terrible choice considering most of us were cooped up at home watching Netflix. However, with Covid quickly losing speed, what better bud than this to jumpstart all of the summer activities you’ve got planned? Jack Herer is said to be a combination of Haze, Northern Lights, and Shiva Skunk. Coming in at a reasonable 17% THC content, Jack Herer won’t leave you so stoned that you forget what your plans were before they even start.
GMO Cookies
GMO Cookies or sometimes referred to as “Garlic Cookies”, is perfect for ending a day of basking by the pool or playing on the lake. This heavy-hitting indica is not for the beginner bud smoker though. Packing a whopping 26% THC, GMO Cookies gets its punch from its parents, Chemdawg and Girl Scout Cookies. Users report this strain leaving them melted into the couch. You’ll know GMO Cookies before being told what it is by the pungent aroma that will have your nose confused at first. The flavor of GMO Cookies is described as earthy with a touch of diesel notes. Be warned though, with the wild demand of GMO Cookies, there are a lot of folks who claim their bud is authentic when in fact, they’re trying to sell you some dirt weed under the guise of another strain. If the scent of this strain doesn’t confirm its authenticity, the densely packed orange hairs covering a green landscape frosted with trichomes will surely help you determine if your bud is the real deal.
Ice Cream Cake
With a name like Ice Cream Cake, how could you not associate this with everything related to summertime activities? Another indica that made our list, Ice Cream Cake is quickly identifiable by its deep purple buds that are covered in warm orange hairs and a moderate frosting of trichome deliciousness. Ice Cream Cake is an indica dominant strains that maintains around 21% THC. Another strain that is best reserved for late-day activities (unless you’re down for an afternoon siesta). Its flavor profile is reported as sweet with hints of vanilla and earthiness undertones. Similar to GMO Cookies, Ice Cream Cake is a strain that you certainly want to seek out a top-shelf quality option if possible.
White Runtz
Away from the dominants, White Runtz is the first strain to make our list that is a true hybrid. A respectable 17% THC content doesn’t put this strain into any heavy-hitter categories, but don’t underestimate its potential! Users report White Runtz’s flavor profile as predominantly sweet with citrus undertones. Based on reviews, White Runtz is considered a weed stash staple because of the entire body high that will leave you feeling like you’re floating on one of those billowy, summertime clouds. Another unique component of White Runtz is that most users report its high lasting unusually longer than other strains. Perhaps that explains its original popularity with medical cannabis patients.
Tangerine Haze
A hallmark summer strain for the past couple of years and this summer is no different. This strain, which is becoming surprisingly more difficult to find in dispensaries, reeks of fun in the sun and everything in between. Tangerine Haze with its 20% THC content and aroma profile that is incredibly similar to…you guessed it…tangerines, is a sativa dominant strain that is known for putting a pep in your step. This is not one that you’re going to want to blaze up before bedtime or when you’re trying to unwind. Save your Tangie Haze as a pre-gaming option or before heading out to do some yard work. Users report that this strain is a cerebral high that isn’t so overwhelming that you lose your ability to function. Unlike most sativas, Tangerine Haze is also noted for its potential to relieve stress, a characteristic that one would expect out of an indica. If you give this strain a shot, you’ll quickly realize why it has become a veteran on the summer favorites list throughout the years.
Paris OG
The final strain to make our Summer 2021 Most Popular Strains list is the indica dominant, Paris OG. This strain has been around since the early 2010’s and although it, like Tangerine Haze, has become exceedingly hard to find legitimate sources for, its popularity continues to rise. This strain was the winner of the 2014 Michigan High Times’ Cannabis Cup and although it experienced a lull in popularity after that, it is making up for lost time more recently. Users report this 21% THC bud as an excellent choice for relaxing at the end of the day as well as helping break through any stress in your life. Paris OG maintains an earthy flavor profile meshed with notes of citrus and pine. Be careful with this strain though as users also report a slower than usual come-up which, for the impatient, can result in re-dosing and finding yourself getting a little too stoned.
Which of these strains have you tried? What strains didn’t make the cut, but you feel they should have? We want to hear from you! Let us know what your favorite bud is during the dog days of summer and while you’re at it, we would love to hear how your weed habits have changed over the past year. Happy Summer 2021!
