NEO GEO Portable: DO WANT!

File this under rumor… because SNK has not officially announced it. It appears that the company has plans to release a new portable! It is supposed to feature a 4.3 inch screen, 2GB internal memory and an SD card slot. Best part? It features 20 classic SNK games built-in!

The games included are World Heroes, Ultimate 11, Top Player’s Golf, Sengoku, Nam-1975, Mutation Nation, Last Resort, King of Monsters, Frenzy, Cyber-Lip, Fatal Fury Special, The Art of Fighting, Super Sidekicks, League Bowling, Metal Slug, Magical Lord, Baseball Stars Professional, Samurai Showdown, The King of Fighters ’94, and Fatal Fury.

The handheld is slightly larger than an iPhone and also includes an AV out, which I assume it means that you will be able to play it on a tv… which is equally awesome.

but like I said, at this point it is all rumor. Until SNK makes an official announcement then I wouldn’t start saving up just yet. SNK stopped production of all hardware in 2001, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Personally, it looks like SNK is trying to move in on the Smartphone platform. And thats based off the size and design of the handheld in the pictures. It make sense to think that they might have the SD card slot in place for people to download games from a marketplace like you would from Apple or Android. If they could persuade some of the companies developing games for Smartphones to creates ports or even original IPs for the new handheld then they could do really well. Games could be offered cheaper than those of the 3DS/Vita and everything could be backed up using some kinda iTunes type setup. This is all personal opinion mind you, so do not take anything to be true.

Once SNK has made an official statement then we should expect to see more info.

Until then, check out these rad pictures!

A Couple of Mods I’ve Done Recently

I’m not sure why, but lately I have been bitten by the mod bug. I guess it’s all those YouTube videos I have been watching of other people’s  mods. Some are really cool while others are kinda lame. But it gave me an idea for a mod of my own. I won’t go into a lot of detail, I would rather just show you.

This first one was an easy mod and took about 35 minutes to do. I basically removed the standard orange LED from the Dreamcast and replaced it with a 3 color LED. Nothing astounding I know but it was fun and it looks really cool. The black Dreamcast on the right is just there for comparison.

This next one took me a while and I haven’t seen another mod like it yet (If you have seen someone else do it please let me know, I would like to know if there is an easier way). I wanted something for my arcade cabinet that i could attach a VMU to it without having to open up the unit to get to a controller where the memory card slot would be. I thought of this idea of making connector using a ribbon cable so I could make it as long as i wanted and could put it on the face of my arcade cabinet. I got the idea from a Mario Kart GP arcade machine I played a few years back. It would let you insert your Gamecube memory card and use your save information on the Arcade version. I won’t go into the details here but I will be putting them up on the ProjectArcade site soon since thats really what it’s for. I also would like to point out that this version was really just a test to see if it could be done, which it can.

New Dreamcast Games!

First game up… Sonic Adventure. Now, I consider this a personal sin for a Dreamcast collector. Not only was this a release title but a staple in Dreamcast’s Library. The fact I have gone this long is nothing short of disgracing. That being said. I finally have it. Whats great about this game is that I can spend hours just running around playing level after level as fast as I can. I feel that even though its 12 years old it still holds up as an amazing game. True, the graphics are dated and the story is a tad stale, but it is still a fantastic game in the Sonic series and a MUST HAVE for any Dreamcast Collector.

I have never actually played Fighting Force 2, but I did play the first one back in the day with my Uncle and I have good memories of that. I used to go stay the night with my aunt and uncle and he and I would play games. My family bought Fighting Force for him for Christmas one year and though I don’t remember much about the story or characters… or even what it looks like, I have those memories.

So now, I have this. I got it a couple weeks ago, and aside from starting it up to make sure it works I have not yet played it. So just for kicks I will probably play through and give my thoughts on it.

This last game I actually know very little about. I came across it while at one of my favorite sites, www.theisozone.com. I was looking for any ideas on a good RPG game. Time Stalkers kept popping up on people’s favorites lists. Well I ended up finding it at a pawn shop for $2 bucks. not too shabby I think considering the shape that it was in (LIKE NEW). I did play about 45 minutes of it and I can tell you that it looks like an amazing game, but its an odd mix of Dungeon Crawler and RPG. I don’t want to talk to much about the story, mainly because I haven’t seen enough of it to tell you. But I think it will go in my Dreamcast Queue to play at some point this year. I might even do a write up on my findings if people actually care.

Well there you go. These are my 3 most recent Dreamcast buys. If you have any Dreamcast Games, Consoles, Accessories, etc. you would like to get rid of them shoot me a message and we will talk. Till next time.

Yeah Yeah, I’ve been busy…

So here is the deal, I haven’t been posting like I should. Truth is it has been a busy month… Not so much for work, but just other junk going on. I have been working on another blog I started about my quest to build an arcade cabinet. It’s gonna be really sweet and it sucks for you that you won’t get to play on it. Since I decided to do that I needed to fund it so I have been selling stuff on eBay. Did you know a Silver Skylander sells for some crazy money? yeah, it does.

Don’t feel too bad though, I’ve been neglecting just about everything lately. I guess the winter does that to you. All I really want to do is sit in front of the TV and sleep all day, not particularly at the same time though that does happen often.

I had a streetpass event not that long ago and it went well. There were 3 people there. So at least it hasn’t gotten worse.

Dreamcast Collecting has taken off again. In the search for Arcade stuff I have found a few games I needed and came up with a little mod project involving a VMU and an old PC ribbon cable.

I’ve had some car trouble so I had to spend a few days dealing with that. Luckily it was nothing extremely serious, nothing my dad and I couldn’t handle.

I got a video camera, so hopefully I can do some videos about some of the stuff I have going on.

I am currently waiting on a Dreamcast SD card adapter I bought from China. I hope to God I didn’t get screwed over.

UH…… well I guess thats pretty much it for now I guess. Doesn’t look like much written down but it has taken up a serious amount of internet time. Hopefully I can keep up with this a little better. after all I am paying for this domain… might as well use it.

I GOT A 3DS!: A 3DS Gamer’s Blog

I GOT A 3DS! is a 3DS blog made by me. Because I like 3DS. So any news or info or whatever I have on Nintendo’s little 3rd dimension buddy will go there. GO SEE IT!

It’s A Controller For Your iOS Devices! And It Freaking Works!

Check out this sweet action controller from the people @ 60Beat.com. This here fancy gamepad plugs into the headphone jack of your iPod, iPhone, etc. and lets you play your games they way they were meant to played… with controls. As you can see it was clearly inspired by the Playstation Controller (seriously?) and it doesn’t require any batteries, it’ll just suck up the juice from your phone instead. You can pick one of these bad boys up at www.60beat.com for a super cheap $50 USD. At the moment only two games support it (Bugdom 2 & Aftermath) but the company promises more to come in 2012. So go waste your Christmas money.

Oh, and watch this video.
